Mattis is a true Wildrose Heritage Dog born and raised at the Wildrose Training Facility in Oxford, Mississippi by Tom Smith. His pedigree includes a second-generation Wildrose Labrador on his sire side and third generation Wildrose Labrador on his dam side with maternal grand sire (Wildrose) Big Red. His sire, Aithness Allie (Wildrose Hamish) was a dog known for his incredible game finding ability and Mattis inherited his drive and scenting abilities. Mattis’ pedigree includes several internationally known British & Irish Labradors such as FTCh Lettermore Trout, FTCh Tasco Boris, FTCh Waterford Chrism.
Mattis is a true gundog of duality, equally comfortable in the duck blind as he is flushing and retrieving quail in the upland field. He has hunted ducks and quail in Mississippi and Arkansas as well as wild pheasants in North Dakota. His temperament is unmatched, a complete joy to be around in the house and totally focused on the hunt when afield. His dark fox red color and kind eyes coupled with quite a unique personality make him a client favorite at the training facility and at our public appearances and demonstrations.
Mattis brings a high-drive style to the field with impeccable steadiness. His precise whistle stops and ease of handle matched with his game finding ability make him an invaluable companion for conservation.
